Shaping Futures: Civil Safety Students Shine as Finalists in 2025 Queensland Training Awards

At Civil Safety, we believe that quality training unlocks potential, transforms lives, and strengthens communities. This commitment is reflected in the outstanding achievements of our students, and the dedication and passion of our trainers. This year, we’re proud that not just one, but three of our students have been named Top 3 finalists in the prestigious 2025 Queensland Training Awards Tropical North QLD category.

Their dedication, resilience, and passion for learning embody the very best of vocational education and training. Each finalist has a unique story that demonstrates how skills development can open doors to new opportunities and inspire others to follow their own path.

We’re proud to share the stories of three former students whose dedication and accomplishments have earned them this recognition:

  • Brett Snodgrass – Vocational Student of the Year
(Civil Safety, Certificate III in Rural Operations)

  • Bridie Blinco – Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year
(Malanda State High School, Certificate III in Agriculture)

  • Eliasoa Nawarie – Equity Student of the Year
(Anglicare Cairns, Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure)

These nominations highlight not only the high standards and impact of our training programs, but also the strength of our partnerships with local schools, community organisations, and industry.

The regional final will take place on 25 July 2025 at the Trinity Room, Cairns Convention Centre, where we’ll be cheering on our finalists as they vie for State recognition.

Brett Snodgrass: Rural Operations With Purpose

Brett Snodgrass, a finalist in the Vocational Student of the Year category, is the perfect example of what happens when determination meets the right training.

Brett completed his Certificate III in Rural Operations through Civil Safety, equipping himself with the skills and confidence to build a career in a vital regional industry. He credits his training with providing a foundation of knowledge and practical experience that continues to guide his career progression.

We've featured Brett's story on our website, where he shares how his journey with Civil Safety has inspired him to keep growing and achieving. Read Brett's story here.

Bridie Blinco: Cultivating the Future of Agriculture

Bridie Blinco has always believed in hard work and hands-on learning – values she brought to her Certificate III in Agriculture through Malanda State High School and Civil Safety. Her passion for the industry, combined with the supportive training environment she experienced, has enabled her to step confidently into a leadership role.

“My experience while training was great,” says Bridie. “There was heaps of extra help if I needed it, and I learnt so much – it was so worthwhile. I’m even looking at doing more courses in the future, particularly around management and leadership roles.”

Bridie is now the operations manager at Rocky Creek Orchards, spending most of her days running the pack shed. She’s also highly involved in the industry outside of work, attending agricultural shows, leading stud beef cattle, and participating in show queen competitions.

She reflects proudly on her journey so far: “Proud to represent the future of agriculture – where hard work, passion, and hands-on training grow into opportunity. I am honoured to be a finalist in the Queensland Training Awards.”

Eliasoa Nawarie: Breaking Barriers in Resources and Infrastructure

For Eliasoa Nawarie, being named a finalist in the Equity Student of the Year category is a testament to his resilience and commitment. Completing a Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure through Anglicare Cairns and Civil Safety’s training support, Eliasoa overcame personal and professional challenges to seize new opportunities.

His journey reflects the idea that everyone deserves access to education and a pathway to success.

These three nominations are more than just individual achievements; they highlight the value of strong partnerships and high-quality training. Our collaborations with schools, employers, and community organisations such as Malanda State High School and Anglicare Cairns make it possible for students like Brett, Bridie, and Eliasoa to succeed.

We extend our congratulations to all three finalists, as well as our trainers, staff and partners who contributed to these incredible outcomes. On behalf of everyone at Civil Safety, we look forward to our finalists at the regional finals in Cairns and to supporting them as they continue to grow their careers.

Congratulations, Brett, Bridie, and Eliasoa, you embody the very best of what Civil Safety stands for.
