This combined course provides the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required to safely test and monitor hazardous atmospheres and work in confined spaces. It is suitable for workers across mining, construction, civil, resources, maintenance, utilities, and industrial services.
You’ll learn how to:
Conduct gas testing and atmospheric monitoring using industry-approved equipment
Safely plan, enter, work in, and exit confined spaces
Apply hazard controls and follow safe operating procedures
Identify, assess, and control confined space hazards
Follow emergency procedures for gas-related and confined space incidents
Communicate effectively and work as part of a team in high-risk environments
Apply relevant legislation, standards, and site safety requirements
In order to provide you with the best learning outcomes possible, this course is delivered via a mix of online learning and face-to-face training. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course.
The online modules are self-paced and include quizzes, written tasks, and scenario-based exercises to test your knowledge.
Your trainer will give you practical tasks to complete based on the information you’ve learned in your online theory module.
You will need to pass both steps in order to successfully complete the course.
Construction and trades workers: Anyone required to enter confined spaces or conduct atmospheric testing as part of daily site activities.
Civil construction staff: Workers involved in pits, tanks, shafts, or areas where hazardous atmospheres may be present.
Mining and resources personnel: Operators, maintenance crews, and service teams working in high-risk environments.
Maintenance and shutdown crews: Teams performing inspections, repairs, cleaning, or servicing tasks in confined spaces.
Utilities and industrial services workers: Staff working around pipelines, water treatment facilities, industrial tanks, or environments requiring gas testing.
Emergency response and safety personnel: Workers responsible for hazard identification, atmospheric monitoring, and implementing safe work procedures.
Local government and council staff: Employees maintaining infrastructure such as stormwater systems and tanks.
New starters in high-risk industries: Anyone beginning a role where confined space entry or atmospheric testing is required.
Completing the combined Perform Rescue from a Live Low-Voltage (LV) Panel and Provide CPR course opens up a range of career opportunities across multiple industries:
First Aid Officer / Workplace First Responder: Often a designated role within organisations, including offices, construction sites, or events, responsible for managing medical emergencies and electrical incidents.
Electrical Safety or LV Panel Rescue Officer: Supervising and responding to live electrical hazards in workplaces such as construction, utilities, and industrial sites.
Patient Transport Officer: Assisting with non-emergency medical transport while applying CPR and first aid skills.
Lifeguard or Pool Attendant: CPR and emergency response skills are mandatory for public safety roles.
Sports Trainer / Club Medic: Providing first response care for athletes and community sporting events.
Pathway into Healthcare Careers: Provides a stepping stone for roles such as Paramedic, Nurse, or Allied Health Assistant, where first aid, CPR, and emergency response qualifications are prerequisites
There are no formal entry requirements; however, students will need:
To be at least 16 years of age
Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication)
Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist.

Our trainers are dedicated to helping you succeed and will be available to answer your questions and provide feedback on your progress. They will provide you with the guidance and support you need to fully understand the course material, as well as offer suggestions for further learning opportunities.
Eligible workers, employers and career seekers in Queensland’s building and construction industry can save up to 75-100% on courses, including short courses, units of competency, or Certificate and Diploma qualifications. While CSQ provides substantial funding, a student co-contribution fee is typically required. Check your eligiblity or contact us for more information.
Eligible apprentices, trainees, workers and business owners in WA’s building and construction industry can save up to 70% per course (metro) and 80% per course (regional) with CTF funding. As an approved bulk billing provider, we handle the paperwork and claim process for you - so you only pay the gap while you upskill, get licences, and complete safety courses.
