The Conduct Roller Operations course provides you with the practical skills and hands-on training needed to safely operate rollers in civil construction and related industries. Key topics include:

  • Load Handling & Stability: Understand roller stability, working with gradients, and managing loads to maintain safety.

Delivery & Assessment

In order to provide you with the best possible learning outcomes, this course is delivered via a mix of online learning and face-to-face training. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course.

Step 1 - Complete theory module online (self-paced, complete within 30 days)
The online modules include quizzes, written tasks, and scenario-based exercises to ensure comprehension.

Step 2 - Attend 1 day face-to-face practical training
Practical exercises allow you to apply your learning under the supervision of an experienced Trainer Assessor.

You need to pass both steps to complete the course.

 

Who Should Complete This Course?

  • Landscaping and ground crews: anyone required to operate rollers on building, road, or infrastructure projects.
  • Mining and resources personnel: workers performing compaction of soil, gravel, asphalt, and other materials. 
  • Roadworks and maintenance crews: personnel engaged in road construction, resurfacing, and repair.
  • Mining and resources staff: operators responsible for surface compaction, haul road maintenance, or site preparation
  • Landscaping and grounds teams: staff using rollers for soil levelling and surface finishing.
  • Local government and council workers: employees involved in public works, road repairs, and large-scale maintenance projects.

 

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however students will need:

  • Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and online modules)

  • Adequate language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments

  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training

Please note - this unit does not provide sufficient skills to independently load and unload equipment. To perform this activity safely, you must either complete or be assisted by someone who has completed Load and Unload Plant (RIIHAN308F) or an equivalent qualification.

Eligible workers, employers and career seekers in Queensland’s building and construction industry can save up to 75-100% on courses, including short courses, units of competency, or Certificate and Diploma qualifications.
