The Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card) course covers the fundamental safety principles that you need before stepping onto a construction site in Australia. During the course, you’ll cover the key safety requirements needed to start work on a construction site, including:

  • Understanding your rights and responsibilities under WHS legislation

  • Identifying common construction hazards and risk control measures

The Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card) course provides the essential safety knowledge required before entering any construction site in Australia. You’ll learn how to recognise and manage common hazards, apply basic risk controls, and comply with key workplace health and safety legislation. 

This course is delivered face-to-face to ensure the best learning outcomes. You’ll be guided by an experienced Trainer Assessor, who will provide support and feedback throughout the session.

The White Card course is a mandatory requirement for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry in Australia. This includes:

  • People starting a career in construction or related fields

  • Tradespeople, labourers, and apprentices entering building sites

  • Site managers, supervisors, and surveyors who need site access

  • Workers in mining, civil, and other industries who enter construction zones

  • Anyone required to be on a construction site as part of their job

  • Construction Labourer: Assisting with various jobs on a building site, such as digging and unloading equipment.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements; however, students will need:

  • Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication)

  • Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments

  • Meet the minimum age requirement of 14 years of age or older

A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply atusi.gov.au or we can assist.

Construction Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ)

Eligible workers, employers and career seekers in Queensland’s building and construction industry can save up to 75-100% on courses, including short courses, units of competency, or Certificate and Diploma qualifications. While CSQ provides substantial funding, a student co-contribution fee is typically required. Check your eligiblity or contact us for more information.

Construction Training Fund (CTF - WA)

Eligible apprentices, trainees, workers and business owners in WA’s building and construction industry can save up to 70% per course (metro) and 80% per course (regional) with CTF funding. As an approved bulk billing provider, we handle the paperwork and claim process for you - so you only pay the gap while you upskill, get licences, and complete safety courses.
