Diploma of Leadership and Management - Course Information

The Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) is a nationally recognised qualification that focuses on the operational side of leadership, including how to plan, organise, and deliver results through people. It is structured to develop both the technical and interpersonal skills required to manage teams, coordinate workflows, and contribute to business performance. 

This course goes beyond foundational leadership concepts, placing a strong emphasis on implementation. Participants will work through real workplace scenarios, building capability in areas such as resource planning, performance management, risk identification, and continuous improvement.

You'll learn to:

  • Plan, prioritise, and oversee team workloads

  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Communicate with clarity across teams and stakeholders

Course Delivery and Assessment

This course is delivered 100% online, combining interactive theory modules with short assessments to test your knowledge as you progress. You’ll also have a dedicated trainer/assessor available throughout the course to provide support whenever you need it.

The Diploma of Leadership and Management is self-paced, so you can enrol at any time and study around work, family, or other commitments. While the average completion time is around 14 months, your actual duration depends on the time you dedicate and your existing skills.

Students receiving study benefits from Centrelink (education on supplement) will be obligated to complete the course in 28 weeks (full-time) or 56 weeks (part-time). Students who complete the course as part of a traineeship will have 12 months full-time or 2 years part-time.

The Diploma of Leadership and Management is a nationally-recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). On successful completion, you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment for the following 12 accredited units of competency.

  • General Manager - General Managers are responsible for overseeing all aspects of a business, including finances, operations, and management. They are the highest-level managers in a business and are responsible for ensuring the business is meeting its goals.

  • Operations Manager - Operations Managers are responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a business, including overseeing production, managing supply chains, and ensuring efficiency in all aspects of the business.

  • Account Manager - Account Managers are responsible for managing relationships with clients, including ensuring client satisfaction, identifying new business opportunities, and managing client accounts.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to enrol in this course; however, students should have:

  • basic computer skills and access to the internet

  • sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments, and;

  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.
