The Work Safely at Heights face-to-face refresher course is designed for people who have previously completed height safety training and want to keep their skills up-to-date and retain compliance for site.
You’ll learn how to:
Identify and assess height-related hazards and risks.
Correctly use fall-arrest systems, harnesses, and other height safety equipment.
Apply WHS legislation and site-specific height safety procedures.
Plan and perform work safely at heights using safe work methods.
Conduct pre-use checks on equipment and understand inspection requirements.
Respond effectively to emergencies or incidents involving height work.
This refresher course is delivered face-to-face over 1 full day.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the day.
Assessment is competency-based and ensures you can apply safe work practices with confidence. It includes:
An Interactive quiz and knowledge checks throughout the day
Scenario-based questions to demonstrate practical understanding
A final observation to confirm your competency in all three areas

Upon successful completion of this refresher course, you will be awarded a nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment for:
RIIWHS204E - Work Safely at Heights
This certification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and can support applications for higher roles in safety and compliance.
Construction: Roofers, builders, bricklayers, electricians, painters, and plumbers.
Resources: Coal and metalliferous mining, drilling, and extractive industries.
Infrastructure: Telecommunications technicians and tower workers.
Maintenance: Building and solar panel cleaners and installers.
Specialised Roles: Scaffolders and site rescue personnel
To enrol in this refresher course, students must:
Have successfully completed Work Safely at Heights (RIIWHS204E) or the superseded Work Safely at Heights (RIIWHS204D) units.
Be at least 15 years of age.
Have basic computer skills and access to the internet.
Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.
Students must provide the following evidence:
A clear copy of your driver's licence or other photo identification.
A Statement of Attainment issued by an RTO confirming successful completion of either RIIWHS204E or RIIWHS204D.
Note: Wallet cards will not be accepted unless they meet AQF requirements for an accredited Statement of Attainment.
Important Information:
To avoid delay in processing and issuing your Statement of Attainment, please ensure payment or a company purchase order is provided at enrolment.
If you are submitting a USI transcript, it must include a QR verification code.
If the student does not meet the refresher eligibility requirements and is required to complete the full course, an additional assessment fee will apply for the practical training and assessment component. This can be delivered at any of our training facilities across Australia.
